 Installations up at all times..
Urban Dwell Space, Nicole Antebi (sculpture/installation). A cardboard structure synthesizing Ivan Illich's ideas about the temporal
nature of urban dwelling and the "sustainable" consumption
          found in Dwell Magazine.
There goes the Neighborhood, Matt MacFarland
(sculpture of toppled dictator) What resembles an outdated modernist sculpture actually once served as
the support for the statue of the great dictator. The details are not
clear, but the statue was toppled by an angry mob. Or were they jubilant?
Again, the details are not clear.

Los Angeles County Ecstatic Energy Network Guide Map,
Chris Bassett (brochures available outside the front of gallery) A brochure for a self-guided tour of selected Ecstatic Energy Accumulation
and Distribution locations in Los Angeles County.
Water Park, Amy Blount Lay (model). A proposal for a water park.
Eternal Beach (2008), N_DREW (aka Andrew Bucksbarg)
(sound) Eternal Beach explores the morphological qualities of a virtual beach
with droning comfort to sleep to, meditate to or fill the silence. Eternal
Beach is synthesized ambience that will play forever, without the mess
of sand, biting flies or overcast skies...

  - 11pm, Egg: To Have or Have Not, The Politics of Motherhood
 Lara Bank & Amy
    Green

Egg brings all people together, mothers and the
child-free. Plan on a very down to earth evening discussing all the many
aspects and choices in relation to having children or not.
The choice to have a child deals with economics, biological clocks, desire,
and stigmatization. What is going on with women in today's climate as they
face the choice that all women must, the choice of having children? Egg provides
an open forum where women can feel safe to discuss issues that are hidden
via the specter of our careers. We are doing this because we can't get through a day without thinking about
it and any real meaningful discussion about what it means to be a woman and
going through this decision, to have or have not, seems to be very limited
in our culture. We are bombarded with advertisement and images of motherhood,
but what are the real life stories. Women are often left alone with this
discussion. A book list will be provided, refreshing beverages,
    and snacks.

  - 11pm, Fake Iraq Film Night
 Nicholas Grider

Short films and documentaries made at the Army's gigantic Fake Iraq
by Danielle Adair, Daiana Feuer, Nicholas Grider, and Suzanne Mejean. Fake Iraq Film Night consists of the screening of six videos by four
CalArts grads (Danielle Adair, Daiana Feuer, Nicholas Grider and Suzanne
Mejean) that were made at, about, or inspired by the Army's National
Training Center. The NTC is an enormous simulated middle-east where
US soldiers train before they are deployed: it's a Fake Iraq the size
of Connecticut in the Mojave desert. The evening features Suzanne Mejean's documentary about the NTC, Theater,
followed by shorter, experimental pieces by the other artists branching
out stylistically to encompass Gertrude Stein, Star Wars, and Nine
Inch Nails (sometimes in the same piece).

couple is still living in the crumbling building. They tell the youngsters
that the resort was shut down long ago because it was the headquarters
of a satanic cult that performed cannibalistic rituals on unsuspecting
visitors, and then invite the pair to stay for dinner. Will John
or Jenny make it back to civilization alive? Will anyone believe

In November 2008 something is going to change. The worst president
ever will finally be voted out of the White House. But, For many of
us born after the assassinations of JFK, MLK and Malcolm X, belief
in revolutionary change through electoral politics is not easily resuscitated.
As artists, educators, activists, very concerned people what does the
upcoming mean for us as we are surviving through a recession? What
are we doing to get by to remain connected, to deal with a deep sense
of desperation and a tiny glimmer of hope? Come share resources, discuss
what’s been going on and what we want to happen next.

Faraway Places Modal Energy Music Configurationsound

with artist Terry Chatkupt inThe Inverted Pyramid: Omniphonic synthesizer ensemble + ceiling
          lightshow
The Faraway Places Modal Energy Music Configuration is an experimental
multimedia music ensemble specializing in unique "omniphonic" performances
that literally surround the audience. They will perform "The Inverted Pyramid". This performance
will involve a ring of musicians playing vintage synthesizers around
an audience which is reclining while viewing video projections by Terry
Chatkupt on the ceiling. They have performed at several California artspaces, including Machine
Projects, Sea & Space Explorations, the Outpost for Contemporary
Art, and Southern Exposure in San Francisco. In November they will
perform at LACMA as part of an event curated by Machine Projects. As many as 15 people join core members Chris Colthart and Donna Coppola,
creating rhythmic sheets of sound that evoke Alice Coltrane, Steve Reich,
Philip Glass, Sun Ra, and 60s psychedelic rock. The Faraway Places also play as a psych/krautrock band, combining
experimental techniques with pop songcraft from a bygone era. They
are currently releasing their 2nd record, "Out of the Rain, the Thunder & the Lightning." Their
debut, "Unfocus On It," received praise upon its release
in 2004 on the LA label Eenie Meenie and on Bella Union in Europe.

rules. Costumes are not required but are strongly encouraged (costumed
