Using the language of the handcrafted architectural model as a narrative tool, Lay creates multiple interconnected worlds that propose both ruin and renewal. What in some locations may seem like a nightmarish sprawl will subtly shift into a feel-good fantasy. Aggressively optimistic, Lay's sculptural landscapes playfully trespass over the boundaries between conscious thought and unconscious desire... like a good bedtime story.
Amy Blount Lay received her MFA in Art in 1994 from the California Institute of the Arts and her BFA in Painting from the University of Kansas in 1989. She can be contacted via email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
